Flood plan

This document is part of the school’s emergency plan, but highlights a topic of particular concern for the school community.

In an emergency situation the process outlined below may be subject to change. The process below is a broad guideline:

Stage 1 – Environment Agency Alert

  • School will text families

  • Families may decide to collect children

Stage 2 – Water on access roads to Hebden Bridge

  • School will text families

  • Families will be encouraged to collect children from school

Stage 3a – Environment Agency Warning prompting evacuation of the building

  • School will text families

  • School will close and children will be evacuated

  • Families will be asked to collect from an alternative location

Or Stage 3b – Environment Agency warning prompting shelter on the 1st floor

  • School will text families

  • School will close and families will be unable to collect children from the building

  • Staff and children will await emergency services

  • If adverse weather is ongoing, and we are unable to take refuge upstairs, all staff will meet at the Fire Assembly Point in the yard, children will be registered and moved safely to higher ground i.e Stubbings Infant School. Our Admin Team will take parent contacts in order to update parents accordingly.

We ask families to take responsibility for the decision whether to collect/not collect children in an emergency.

The school is registered on Floodline Warnings direct.

The school will also monitor and take account of local flooding information including:

  • Visibly from the school, including but not limited to the level of water to the top of the canal arches

  • Updates from flood wardens

  • Flood sirens

  • The Eye on Calderdale remote river level monitoring web tool
