Geography at Central Street

 Intent: What we will achieve?

We want our pupils to be curious about the world and its people.

Geography; taught through topics will mean that the children will find out about place, people and environments both natural and manmade through asking and answering questions. This will help them to develop an understanding of the world, their place in it and their responsibilities. It will give them the understanding of how human and physical processes are linked.

Implementation: How will the children learn?

In EYFS, geography (Knowledge & Understanding of the world) is introduced indirectly through activities that encourage children to begin to gain a wider experience of the world around them.

In KS1, geography is taught every term.

Geography is often, though not exclusively taught through the curriculum themes and topics to provide links with other curriculum subjects in a meaningful way and through a variety of activities such as drama, art and IT so that children of all abilities can communicate their knowledge.

We will take the opportunity to use the local area to take learning outside the classroom. This will develop fieldwork skills and other key skills such as map work and place knowledge

Nell Bank trips – active whole day outdoor learning workshops. Trips to locations beyond our locality widen the children’s knowledge of the world.
